I am a White Earth Nation (Gaa-waabaabiganikaag) descendant and was raised in Milwaukee and grew up benefiting from its strong Native community. I learned a commitment to building that community from my mother Donna Beckstrom’s hard work and involvement in groups throughout the city. After receiving my Ph.D. in STEM research from UWM, I worked with tribal colleges across Montana to provide grant-funded student programs. After recently returning to my hometown, I am working as part of MIC to help ensure that this community continues for my son.
